Insulator of the Month - Unique Threadless
Reprinted from "Crown Jewels of the Wire", August 2003, inside front cover

Ross Baird says this CD 718 threadless is one of his favorite insulators. There's more to this insulator than just its outstanding color. Ross says that, to his knowledge, this insulator is unique among CD 718's because of its extended skirt. Note the mold line that runs horizontally around the insulator about a half-inch or so above the base. For some reason extra glass was poured into the mold, making this insulator taller than the usual 718.

The color is pretty tremendous, too. Many CD 718's in colored glass are so dark that light barely passes through them. Ross had this beauty in a display featuring green insulators at the 2003 National Show in Springfield, Ohio.
